Most people want to have some kind of pet at home, but you can not always have the classic dog or cat, since there are those who do not have the time to offer them the necessary care, or the space, because they live in apartments or very small houses that sometimes lack patio, garden, or a suitable place for the pet to be happy; for these cases, fish are an excellent alternative.

They are silent and colorful, do not need much care and provide multiple benefits for those who choose to have a few at home.

Some benefits of choosing a fish as a pet

  • Unlike dogs and cats, fish are pets that do not make noise. So, having them you will not hear barks or meows that sometimes last for hours depending on the temperament of these animals.
  • Also, since they do not roam around the house, they do not dirty the floor, the carpets, or the furniture. You will never find a bad smell in the corners
  • They are pets that do not need much space, or have to go for walks.
  • Fish do not need any training like dogs to be well behaved animals.
  • They do not need to be entertained.
  • In economic terms, fish are pets that do not require a lot of expense for their maintenance. As for their food, it will require little food a month and at a very low cost.
  • During extended days away from home, you do not have to worry about leaving fish with friends or relatives or in pet lodging. Automatic fish feeders can take care of their feeding. With that they are happy, they do not ask for more, they know how to take care of themselves.

Things to keep in mind

Although maintenance of a pet fish does not require great efforts, it is necessary to know that a daily observation of the inhabitants of the aquarium are the essential measures for the prevention of diseases.

As for food, it is better to consult with the veterinarian or animal professional to know the specific nutritional needs, according to the species. One of the main mistakes made by people who decide to have pet fish, is that they feed them excessively, which means that the only thing that is achieved is to make the fish tank more dirty and create an unhealthy environment for your fish.

The water in the tank must always be clean, something as essential for fish as air is for people.

These animals need a well-lit environment, but not with direct sunlight, but with electric lighting. Daylight can encourage the growth of algae, which will make it harder to clean the aquarium.

As we can see, having fish as pets has many advantages, so if you have not decided on a pet and you have little time, fish are an excellent choice.
