A 2-year-old mixed terrier named Monte; is slated to star as Tramp in the live action remake of the 1955 animated classic; Disney’s ‘Lady And The Tramp’.

The leading dog of Disney’s anticipated live-action “Lady and the Tramp” is already capturing hearts; with his scruffy face, soulful eyes, and his rags-to-riches background.

Scouted by animal trainers; Monte was discovered last year at HALO Animal Recue in Phoenix, Arizona where the trainers adopted the talented canine. According to The Albuquerque Journal; Monte was previously in the care of Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley, New Mexico; before being moved to the Phoenix rescue group.

Playing opposite Monte (voice of Justin Theroux) is a cocker spaniel named Rose as Lady (voice of Tessa Thompson) in the live action remake; which is scheduled to premiere on November 12 on the Disney+ streaming service. Disney did release its first look at the star-crossed canine couple this month. But Monte has been in the headlines all this week; after profiles that details his humble origins in several news medias including The Arizona Republic and the Journal.

HALO Animal Recue President Heather Allen explained in an interview with the Republic; “He was adopted from us in April of 2018; and we knew that the people that were meeting with him were considering him to be a Hollywood star; but we didn’t know for what, because it was top secret. We knew he had the potential to become a Hollywood dog.”

Allen credits Montes’ success in front of the camera to his friendly disposition; ability to follow instructions and love for attention. Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley and Halo both celebrated their alumna on social media following the news of Montes’ star fame became public.

And while Monte is currently soaking up most of the limelight, a news release from Disney’s official fan club D23 stated that the cast of the live-action “Lady and the Tramp” movie cast is filled with rescue dogs, all of which were adopted into forever homes when film production was completed. Disney did not readily respond to a request for background information on, Monte’s cocker spaniel co-star Rose.

Monte joins the ranks of several esteemed rescue dogs that have become movie stars. Including Spike, who played Old Yeller in the iconic 1957 movie of the same name, Spike was adopted from an animal shelter by animal trainer Frank Weatherwax. And the famous golden retriever that was originally found wandering as a stray Buddy; who played his self in the 1997 Coming of age/Comedy-drama “Air Bud,”
